Can an Artificial Intelligence (AI) System ever commit a crime under Criminal Law?
I will present my current research project, as a PhD candidate in Criminal Law and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this project, I try to find out who should be held criminally liable for a crime committed by an autonomous Artificial Intelligence (AI) System: the "human behind the Machine", the AI System itself or none of them? What are the Limits of Criminal Law and what can we do to fill in a potential criminal liability gap?
Short bio: I am a first-year Researcher in Law at the European University Institute (EUI). I have obtained my Masters's Degree in Law (Magister Juris) from the University of Oxford and my bachelor's degree from the Law Faculty of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
